Denise Agee, Director of Tennis

      Director of Tennis Denise Agee taught at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club, then at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, before coming to the South Carolina Yacht Club in 2004.  

         Denise grew up playing tournaments in Richmond, Virginia.  In college, Denise played #1 doubles and #3 singles at Clemson University.

        Since graduating, Denise has continued to play in State and Southern tournaments- reaching a ranking of #1 singles in South Carolina and #3 ranking in the South.  In 2003 she was voted South Carolina Female Player of the Year.

         Denise is married to Joe, and they have 3 children; David, Jenn, and Kristen.

Royce Silvan, Head Tennis Professional

          Royce began his teaching career in 1987 as part of the teaching staff at Van der Meer Tennis Center. From there he attended college in Tyler, Texas.  At Tyler he was the assistant professor for the Tennis Technology Program and played on the Men's Tennis Team (NJCAA National Champions).  Afterwards Royce worked at two major country clubs in Richmond, VA, as Head Professional, developing comprehensive adult and junior programs and coached top State and Mid-Atlantic junior players.  He has also been involved with college coaching, including Virginia Commonwealth University and Georgia Perimeter College Men's & Women's Tennis Teams.   In 1999 and 2000 Royce taught at the Sea Pines Racquet Club in Hilton Head. After a brief sabbatical from Hilton Head, he moved back in 2004 as the Director of Tennis at South Beach Racquet Club and in 2005 he became the Resident Professional at the South Carolina Yacht Club. He is currently a PTR  National Tester.

          As a player, Royce was top five in the south of Spain and top 50 nationally from 14 to 18 years old.  He also played for Tyler Junior College as well as in the Men's Open in Virginia for six years and was ranked as high as #3 in singles.  His favorite shot is the slice backhand.

          Royce was born and raised in Seville, Spain until just before attending college in the US.  His wife Cindy, daughter Danielle and their three Beagles (Steffi, Gabi, Lindsay) live in Hilton Head Plantation and are very happy to be back living in Hilton Head.
